History
The Middlesex Township Police Department was established in 1968 with one Officer. The original headquarters was a one room office located on the same property as the current municipal complex. The department moved to 50 Beagle Club rd. for a time. That building is now the park recreation building. In the early 90's the township constructed the current municipal complex, which is where the Police department is presently housed.
The department currently employs 9 full time Officers, and two part time Officers. There are four ranking Officers at the department, the Chief, two Sergeants, and one Corporal. There is a full time Detective who is under the command of the Detective Sergeant.
The Police Department provides 24 hour protection to the residents and visitors of the township. The Department is charged with patrolling 27 square miles. In those 27 square miles is 110 miles of paved roadway. The infamous "miracle mile" invites over 38,000 individuals who travel the Harrisburg Pike daily. It is the second most heavily traveled road by commercial vehicles in the U.S. Little wonder why Middlesex has been called the "hub of the east coast".
Cumberland County continues to grow and Middlesex Township will continue to grow along with it. The township offers an eclectic mix of truck stops, motels, residential and farm communities, as well as large distribution warehouses, and small manufacturing businesses.
The Chief and his Officers are committed to continual growth and training. Each Officer is trained in a specialty of his choosing.
